Semax + Selank: The secret sauce to managing ADHD and anxiety
If this sounds familiar…
- you start things and don’t finish them
- your brain feels scattered all day
- stimulants make you feel worse, not better
- anxiety holds you back from living a truly fulfilling life
Keep reading.
I’ve struggled with ADHD since I was a kid.
Here’s a typical example of my morning “routine.”
I wake up, and the first thing I should do is go to the bathroom and brush my teeth.
Is that what happens? Of course not.
I gotta let the dogs out. But wait, I start getting distracted by my notifications. Dogs are crying, I gotta feed them. Oh, but the dishwasher is full, I should unload that. My hair is getting in the way. Let me go grab a hair clip. Oh, looks like the bed needs to be made. I still don’t have my contacts in; let me get that situated first. Got a text. Respond. Open Instagram. Scroll. More time goes by. Oh, shoot, I still need to feed the dogs. Oh, the dishwasher!
This goes on for HOURS. Next thing I know, my body starts to feel hungry… But not a normal hungry, I’m STARVING. So I have to raid the fridge and eat whatever is quick. Then I start a show cause I’m eating. Then I see my computer, and I start a work task, maybe get distracted by emails.
Now it’s 12:30 I should really get ready for the gym. Oh crap, I still haven’t brushed my teeth yet. Oh yeah, and the bed still isn’t made.
It’s 2:30, my day is almost over, but have I actually gotten any work done? Nope. Crap! Now I feel terrible and guilty and ashamed.
Nothing actually gets finished because I keep getting pulled in different directions. I’ll open tabs, start organizing something, remember something else I need to do, and just end up going in circles.

Have I talked to a doctor about this? Yes.
Years ago, I was prescribed Adderall. I tried Adderall for about 3 days. For those 3 days, I didn’t eat, I barely slept, and my body felt completely wired in the worst way.
I talked to my doctor, and he prescribed me a lower dose. I tried that. It felt like my nervous system got hijacked, so I stopped and just dealt with the ADHD.
Plus, if you know me, you know that I hate prescriptions anyway. Pharmaceutical companies don’t want to treat the root cause; they just want to put a Band-Aid over your symptoms and make as much profit off of you as possible.
So now what? I felt like I had to live this way forever.

One day, someone told me that there’s a peptide for ADHD.
My ears perked.
What do you mean? What are you talking about? How does that work?
Semax is used for focus, attention, and cognitive function. One of the reasons people look into it is because it’s been studied for increasing BDNF.
BDNF stands for brain-derived neurotrophic factor.
Think of it like support for your brain’s wiring. It plays a role in how your brain forms connections, learns new information, and adapts.
When BDNF levels are higher:
- your brain forms connections more easily
- learning feels smoother
- memory and recall improve
- it’s easier to stay mentally flexible and not get stuck
When BDNF is lower:
- learning new things can feel harder
- memory can feel weaker
- your brain can feel more “rigid” or slower to adapt
When people talk about “neuroplasticity,” this is a big part of that conversation. It’s your brain’s ability to change, adapt, and rewire itself based on what you’re doing and experiencing.
With Semax, the goal isn’t just “more focus” in a stimulant way. Unlike Adderall, it’s more about supporting the underlying systems that help your brain process information, stay on track, and actually follow through.
So instead of forcing focus, it’s more like creating the conditions where focus is easier to access.
Semax is often paired with another peptide called Selank. Selank can help with reducing anxiety and regulating stress and mood. I’ll touch more on this later.
-
After a few days of taking Semax, I was actually getting through my day like a normal, functional human being.
I could sit down, pick a task, finish it, and move on to the next one. I wasn’t bouncing between five things or dragging one task out for hours. Everything felt more efficient and a lot less chaotic.
The real kicker was that this new baseline felt so normal to me that I didn’t even realize that the Semax was working. I had completely forgotten about my ADHD tendencies. The difference really shows up when I don’t take it. I’ll catch myself halfway through multiple tasks again, distracted, and then it dawns on me that I haven’t felt like that in a while. And that’s when I realized, wow, Semax really works.
The best part? No bad side effects.
My appetite and sleep were unaffected. My brain got the help it needed without screwing over my nervous system.

Let’s circle back to Selank.
Selank works more on the anxiety and emotional side. It interacts with GABA and serotonin pathways, which are both heavily involved in how your nervous system regulates stress and mood.
GABA stands for gamma-aminobutyric acid.
It’s a neurotransmitter—basically a chemical your brain uses to send signals—and its main job is to slow things down.
When GABA is doing its job well:
- your thoughts feel more controlled
- your body isn’t constantly tense
- you can relax, wind down, and sleep
When GABA activity is low or dysregulated:
- your mind can feel busy or racing
- your nervous system is in a heightened, overstimulated state
- you feel more anxious, restless, or on edge
- it’s harder to “turn off”
A lot of anti-anxiety medications (like benzodiazepines) work by increasing GABA activity.
Think of Xanax, Valium, Klonopin, and Lorazepam. Even if you’ve never tried them, I’m sure you can think of a movie or a show where the effects of these drugs can be so sedative to the point of it being dangerous.
The reason compounds like Selank get attention is because they seem to influence these calming pathways without hitting them as aggressively.
Serotonin is tied to mood, emotional stability, and that general sense of feeling okay. It also plays a role in social behavior and how comfortable you feel interacting with people.
So when people say Selank helps with anxiety, it’s not in a numbing or sedating way. It’s more like taking the edge off so your baseline feels calmer and steadier.
Semax and Selank together can be a harmonious stack. One supports focus and cognitive function, and the other helps regulate the mental noise that can get in the way.

How Semax and Selank together has completely changed my parter
My partner has struggled with depression, anxiety, and ADHD for a long time.
A few weeks ago, it was getting really bad. Even though life was really good on paper, he felt really low.
He had a laundry list of symptoms that affected his sleep, his cognitive function, his emotional regulation, and his nervous system. His anxiety was through the roof, and he was turning down any and all social plans.
He was desperate for help.
He started seeing a doctor regularly to discuss these symptoms in hopes of getting some sort of prescription for his depression/anxiety and ADHD. It was that bad. Luckily, his doctor wasn’t one that’s quick to write a prescription.
He started taking Semax and Selank together.
Within days, he noticed a difference.
My partner works in a hospital, so his environment is already high-stress. When he’s consistent with these peptides, he’s sharper, processes things faster, and handles pressure better in the moment.
When he skips a few days, he notices that his thinking isn’t as clear, and the stress sticks with him even after work. He comes home and says that his nervous system is still feeling the stress of the day.
The biggest shift for him has been how his social anxiety has basically disappeared. He used to hold back a lot and felt like he didn’t have much to say. This past weekend we were out all day with a friend, and he was completely different—talking, telling stories, and actually engaged. He was just open and present in a way I hadn’t seen before. And at work, he’s been able to connect more with coworkers.
He’s always been so quiet and reserved; I thought he was hard-wired that way. I didn’t realize just how debilitating his social anxiety was for him. And now, it’s like it doesn’t even exist anymore. It’s life changing, to say the least.
Dosing (what we personally do)
This is not medical advice. I am sharing my own research data for educational and research purposes only.
Semax:
10mg vial reconstituted with 2mL bacteriostatic water
~6 units daily (subcutaneous)
Selank:
10mg vial reconstituted with 2mL bacteriostatic water
~5 units daily (subcutaneous)
